After four consecutive years of finishing in the top 3 of the BBJ's annual list of Best Places to Work in Birmingham, Airship finally takes home the gold!

The custom software development company finished first place in the small employer category (10-24 local employees).

In 2018, 2019, and 2020, Airship placed second at the Birmingham Business Journal's penultimate event.

The award recognizes workplaces where employers willingly go above and beyond for their employees. Creating employees who are engaged in their work, advocate for the organization, and intend to stay into the future. The 2021 rankings are based on employee survey results obtained through the Business Journal’s Best Places to Work partner Quantum Workplace.

Co-founded by Trent Kocurek, CEO, and Adam Aldrich, President, Airship is a remote-first company supported by 40 employees across the U.S. Local Airship crew members in the Birmingham area graded the organization’s level of engagement, professional development, satisfaction, and culture.

"Winning this award means so much to Airship," said Trent Kocurek. "2020 was a tough year for so many and as a leader it’s hard to know whether you’re creating an environment where people can thrive even in hard times."

For the Co-founders, the ability to attract top talent for the custom software design and development agency includes a focus on a remote-first culture, a healthy work-life balance, collaboration and a mission-driven purpose to create transformational change for clients and their users through remarkable experiences.

"Airship encourages creativity and curiosity. We continually seek feedback from the team on the benefits or perks that would make life better for them. Our crew is what makes our vision of transformational change possible," said CEO, Trent Kocurek. "And, living into our core values of being customer-obsessed, growth-minded, team-focused, and humbly confident are the foundations of the culture that allows that creativity and curiosity to flourish."

The award was open to companies with a workforce located in Birmingham, Alabama. To see a full list of the winners of the small category Airship won (10-24 local employees) and the other categories, click here.

Start with: What problem are you trying to solve?

One of the activities we work through revolves around refining your problem statement. A problem statement is the key business problem that needs to be solved. In software development, it states “what has to be done” for a project to succeed. It does not say, “how it has to be done.”

We use the 5W’s + 1 H format as well as the SMART Framework when establishing a problem statement. In fact, you can draft your own problem statement by using our free download. This download will get you thinking through some of the questions and answers prior to starting your project.
