Being a builder at Airship is one of my life’s great passions. It sounds sappy, but it really is something I’ll think about at the end of my life and say, “I really helped make a difference in people’s lives by doing that.” That’s the most satisfying thing about working here. I get to create products that make our client’s days a little brighter or lead them from metaphorically scaling an unsurpassable mountain on their own to building a tunnel that passes them easily through to their destination.
As a builder by day and a fiction writer by night, I think the formula for great software is similar to writing a great novel; it requires a combination of utility, simplicity, and beauty. I strive to incorporate this into everything I do at Airship. This is impossible without an awesome team of fellow builders, navigators, and explorers. I can’t tell you how blessed I am to get to roll up my sleeves and work alongside such talented, kind, and creative people every day.
I grew up on a small farm in Adger, AL. My parents were very supportive of my brother, Adam, and I in furthering our education, so they bought us an IBM Aptiva desktop from Radio Shack. We were so blessed to have a computer and internet at a time when most kids didn’t. Adam, who’s a few years older than I, got his start at programming and helped me learn as well. I spent my teenage years enjoying the magical world that was unlocked by code on our tiny square screen. I found I could tell any story I wanted through the use of software. It was a passion that stuck with me enough to pursue a BA in Computer Science at UAB and go on to work at some great companies and learn from seasoned developers the art of software development.
I am now married to the love of my life, Kara. When we’re not busy at our respective crafts, we’re usually out exploring new places, watching movies, listening to music, and spending time with our family, friends, and church. I also am passionate about glorifying God through the use of creative writing, theology, playing piano and guitar, and serving communities both here and abroad through mission opportunities.
